These smooth sides are for a Pullman-Standard built full length Diner. 4 of these cars were delivered to New York Central in '48 for service on the "20th Century" and the "Commodore Vanderbilt." Numbered 400 to 403, 400 and 402 were permanently coupled to plan #7545 Kitchen Lounge cars 476/477 for the "Commodore" and 401 and 403 were coupled to plan #7546 Kitchen Dormitory cars 474/475 for the "Century." 401 and 403 were scrapped in '60, 400 and 402 lasted on the "Century" until '71 and then scrapped.
