These 6 PS Smooth Side Club Lounge cars were delivered to Southern Pacific in late '49. They were unique in that they included a barber shop and a shower for first class passengers. Three of the cars, #2981-2983, wore the two-tone gray of the "Overland." Two of them, #2984 - Golden View and #2985 - Golden Outlook, wore the red and silver of the "Golden State." The last, #2986, wore the yellow and gray of the "City of San Francisco." The window arrangement was later copied on the like cars for the Budd-built "Sunset Limited." Two of the cars went to Amtrak and the rest were used as SP Instruction Cars.
